In Machakos County, our youth programs are making direct contributions to two of the most critical SDGs: SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth). Here's how we're turning global goals into local impact.

What Are the SDGs and Why Do They Matter?
The Sustainable Development Goals are a set of 17 interconnected goals adopted by all UN member states in 2015. They are designed to address the world's most pressing challenges, including poverty, inequality, climate change, and environmental degradation.

SDG 4: Quality Education
SDG 4 aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. At the Nzoka Kivuva Foundation, we are contributing to this goal through:

Case Study: SDG 4 in Action
Sarah Muthoni, a Form 3 student from Mwala, was on the verge of dropping out of school when she received a sports-linked scholarship from the foundation. Today, she is not only back in school but is also an active member of her school's football team.
"I never thought I could afford to continue my education. This scholarship has given me hope and a future. I want to become a teacher and inspire other young people."
Case Study: SDG 8 in Action
David Mutua, a 24-year-old from Kabaa, was struggling to find employment after dropping out of school. Through our vocational training program, he gained skills in carpentry and woodwork.
"I never thought I could build a career without a university degree. Today, I'm a skilled carpenter, earning a steady income and supporting my family. Vocational training gave me a second chance."
Today, David runs his own carpentry workshop, employing three other young people from his community — a testament to how local action can achieve global goals.
The Road Ahead
The Nzoka Kivuva Foundation is committed to deepening our contribution to the SDGs. In the coming years, we plan to:
- Expand our scholarship program to support 100+ students annually
- Establish a dedicated vocational training center in Machakos
- Create a youth entrepreneurship fund to support new businesses
- Develop a digital literacy program reaching 500+ youth
- Build partnerships with international organizations aligned with the SDGs
