The Nzoka Kivuva Foundation, in partnership with the Machakos County Sports Office and local community organizations, officially launched the Machakos Girls' Football League at the Mwala Stadium. The league, which features 8 girls' teams from across the county, aims to promote gender equality, youth participation, and sports development in the region.
The inaugural season kicked off with a colorful ceremony attended by county officials, community leaders, parents, and enthusiastic supporters who came to cheer on the young athletes.

Breaking Barriers, Building Champions
The league represents a significant step forward in promoting girls' participation in sports in Machakos County. For many of the players, this is their first opportunity to play organized football in a competitive league setting.
The league features teams from across the county, including:
- Mwala Starlets' FC
- Makutano Queens
- Mumbuni Giants FC
- Green-Army Mbiuni FC
- Etikoni Superstars FC
- Ulaani Youth FC
- Muvwana FC
- Kyamutwii FC
"Football has given these girls confidence and a sense of belonging. Many of them had never played organized sports before. This league is changing their lives."
Promoting Gender Equality Through Sports
The league is part of the foundation's broader commitment to gender equality and youth empowerment. By creating opportunities for girls to participate in sports, the foundation is helping to break down traditional barriers and challenge stereotypes that limit girls' potential.
"Sports has the power to transform lives and challenge harmful gender norms," said Advocate Nzoka Kivuva, Executive Director. "When girls see themselves as athletes, they begin to see themselves as leaders. This league is about more than football — it's about building a future where every girl has the opportunity to reach her full potential."

Supporting the Players
In addition to organizing the league, the foundation is providing sports equipment, uniforms, and training to all participating teams. Coaches have also been trained in child protection, fair play, and positive coaching techniques.
"We want to ensure that these girls have everything they need to succeed — both on and off the pitch," said the league coordinator. "This includes access to proper equipment, qualified coaches, and a safe environment where they can develop their skills and build lasting friendships."
What's Next
Following the success of the inaugural season, the foundation plans to:
- Expand the league to 12 teams in 2027
- Introduce age-group categories
- Establish a girls' football academy
- Create mentorship programs pairing players with female role models
"The response we've received from the community has been overwhelming," said the foundation's program manager. "Parents, teachers, and community leaders are all rallying behind this initiative. We're excited to see how the league grows and develops in the coming years."
